厳島神社 -Itsukushima shrine-

Im going to talk about World Heritage Sites in Japan. The Present, there are 15th World Cultural Heritage site and 4th World Natural Heritage site. I have been to 9th World Cultural Heritage site in Japan. I acutually passed World Heritage sites test. Its means like World Heritage sites master. But I almost forgot everything. I think I have to study it again. haha

★Itsukushima shrine

This time, I picked 1 World Cultural Heritage site. The name is Itsukushima shrine. It is a Shinto shrine on the island of Itsukushima (usually people call it Miyajima), best known for its "floating" torii gate. It is in the city of Hatsukaichi in Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan. It is the only shrine in the world to have been built over the surface of the sea. Even before the Itsukushima Shrine was established over 1400 years ago, the small island of Miyajima had been long hailed as a spiritual, holy island. The Shinto shrine complex was first built in the 6th century, and enhanced in 1168 by the Heian period warlord, Taira no Kiyomori, who provided funds for the shrines’ construction. At high tide, the shrine appears to be floating on the water, while at low tide it is possible to approach the shrine on foot along the beach.
